Orchard Road and the Novotel on Stevens in Singapore (#46)

Horm Stories #46

Today, we’re taking a leap to Singapore, nestled between the vibrant Orchard Road and the UNESCO-listed Botanic Gardens. This famous shopping avenue is not just a destination for retail therapy, but an urban laboratory where contemporary design engages in a dialogue with history and nature. Few people know that Orchard Road was once surrounded by tropical plantations—a green legacy that today is also brought to life through the most innovative architectural projects.

Among these, the Novotel Singapore on Stevens stands out, designed by DP Architects and DP Design. The concept is inspired by the Chinese character “人” (rén), symbolizing the human being, which guided the harmonious arrangement of open spaces and functional areas. But it is also a project that has made sustainability a cornerstone: from energy-efficient solutions to the choice of materials, every detail has been designed to ensure minimal environmental impact and a responsible hospitality experience. It comes as no surprise that it has received international awards for its eco-friendly architecture and design.

The interiors reflect this approach, featuring design choices that are understated yet sophisticated. Among the carefully selected elements are Casamania’s Lepel seating, featured throughout the lounge areas. Designed by Luca Nichetto, they draw inspiration from the Afrikaans word lepel (“spoon”): their enveloping backrest provides a sense of warmth and welcome, perfectly aligned with the concept of elegant, sustainable comfort.

Novotel on Stevens teaches us that design can be beautiful, functional, and responsible. And this is the spirit we strive to bring to all our projects.
