Collini Villas in Mykonos: Design as a Driver of Tourism (#22)

Horm Stories #22

Today we want to tell you about Mykonos, the jewel of the Cyclades. Classical mythology recounts the tale of the Giants, slain by Hercules in battle and buried beneath the rocky surface of Mykonos. From this legend comes the island’s name, meaning “rocky land.” Once merely a stopping point for sailors before reaching ancient Delos, Mykonos quickly became one of Greece’s most visited islands, famous for its beaches, vibrant nightlife, and traditional architecture—whitewashed walls with doors and windows painted in deep blue, creating a stunning contrast with the crystalline sea.

In recent times, understanding the shifts in Cycladic tourism has highlighted the need to enhance the visitor experience through innovative and original approaches. One of these strategies involves leveraging design as a creative tool to interact with production processes, allowing tourism to evolve into a sector where creative strategies add value and elevate the guest experience.

The concept is to harness the skills of designers to craft innovative spaces that adapt to the needs of the tourism sector, improving visitor satisfaction while increasing the destination’s overall value.

A tangible example of this design-driven approach can be found at Collini Villas in Mykonos, a project by architect Sophia Apergi. This resort features rooms designed with the latest trends in modern design, emphasizing comfort without compromising style. In such an exclusive environment, it was natural to include the signature touch of Casamania by Horm: the Him & Her Rosa Lucido chairs adorn the sea-view terraces, adding a bold personality to the apartments’ outdoor spaces. This glossy variant is not available in the standard catalog, yet Horm and its sister brand Casamania excel at delivering customized solutions for contract projects: Him & Her chairs can be made in any RAL or Pantone color to meet the specific needs of high-end hospitality design.
