The Art of Mixology in the ‘Milano da Bere’ Scene (#20)

Horm Stories #20

Today we want to introduce you to the world of mixology, a sophisticated practice designed to offer a complete tasting experience, engaging all the senses of those enjoying a cocktail. Mixology represents for the world of beverages what gourmet cuisine represents for food.

The art of mixology gained prominence in the United States during Prohibition, when the sale and consumption of alcohol were banned, yet people continued to find creative ways to craft and enjoy cocktails.

In recent decades, mixology has become widely popular globally, transforming the act of mixing drinks into a true art form bordering on alchemy. This intellectual approach focuses on creating an intimate and immersive tasting experience, engaging all the senses of the drinker. In mixology-inspired bartender courses, cocktails are prepared with slow, elegant movements, while the bartender provides captivating descriptions of the drinks and tips for optimal enjoyment. This approach creates a refined, vintage atmosphere, reminiscent of the “speakeasy” bars of the Prohibition era.

In the vibrant city of Milan, “Non Solo Cocktails” opened its doors as the first Italian agency offering integrated services in the world of beverages, with a special focus on mixology. Conceived by founder Mattia Pastori, the project offers a space for professionals and enthusiasts to explore the world of cocktails in all its facets, through training courses, experimentation, collaboration, and experience sharing.

In such a project, the aesthetic component plays a critical role in recreating the atmosphere of a typical club. The furnishings at Non Solo Cocktails were designed to evoke the authentic bar environment: meticulous attention to details, careful selection of materials, and thoughtfully shaped forms create a sense of familiarity, transforming the space into not just a visual pleasure, but a complete sensory experience for all visitors.
